Useful Information

Departure Points for Ferries Going From Europe to Morocco

  • Spain: The main port from which the ferries go to Morocco is Algeciras. There are also Almeria and Malaga.
  • Italy: You can sail from Genoa to Tangier. This is a good choice if you are going to Morocco from Central or Eastern Europe. However, the duration of the trip is around 2 days, so you'll make a wise decision by booking a full pension, which includes a room with a bed and meals.
  • France: Sète.

Note: Ceuta (Sebta in Arabic) and Melilla are two Spanish towns (exclaves — this is Spanish territory) on Morocco's Mediterranean coast. So, if you are going to take a ferry to either one of them, you will cross the border and enter Morocco not when the ship arrives at these ports, but once you reach the border either by car or some other means (taxi, bus). If you want to enter Morocco directly, choose Tangier as your destination port.

Important: If you are travelling to Morocco during August, prepare for a long wait before boarding a ferry. It is during August that many of the 3 million Moroccans living in Europe are travelling to Morocco to spend their holidays there. Although the shipping companies do prepare for this, the wait can still be long.
